IDEAL SecuriTEST Pro Discontinued? Modern Alternatives for Analog, HD and IP Cameras

The IDEAL SecuriTEST Pro (part number 33-892) was a popular handheld tester for analog CCTV: installers used it to check the picture, measure video and sync levels and drive PTZ cameras from the camera end. Distributors such as Platt now list the 33-892 as discontinued, so if your unit has failed or you are equipping a new technician, you need a different tool.

This guide sums up what the SecuriTEST Pro did, what has changed on CCTV sites since it was designed, and which current tester covers the same jobs.

What the SecuriTEST Pro Tested

According to distributor listings, the SecuriTEST Pro combined these functions in one compact unit:

  • Video display on a 2.5-inch colour LCD, with video level and sync measurement: 30–150 IRE video and 30–42 IRE sync on NTSC, 200–1200 mV video and 200–320 mV sync on PAL
  • PTZ camera control and PTZ protocol analysis, with more than 20 protocols such as Pelco D and Pelco P
  • Test pattern generator, UTP cable tester and digital multimeter
  • A 3.7V 2000 mAh LiPo battery rated for about 5.5 hours

All of these are built around analog NTSC / PAL video. The published specifications do not list HD-TVI, HD-CVI, AHD, SDI or IP cameras.

What Has Changed on CCTV Sites

Most cameras installed today are either HD-over-coax (TVI, CVI or AHD, often at 5MP or 8MP) or IP cameras powered by PoE. An analog-only tester shows no picture from an HD coax camera unless the camera is switched to CVBS output, and it cannot power or view an IP camera at all. A replacement therefore needs to cover at least:

  • HD coax formats up to 8MP, with UTC / OSD control to change camera settings over the coax
  • IP cameras over ONVIF and RTSP, plus PoE output to power the camera without the switch
  • 12V output for coax cameras and RS-485 PTZ control for older domes
  • A screen large enough to judge focus at 4K and above

Which Steedvision Tester Replaces It

Pick by the cameras you actually install:

  • Analog and HD coax only: the HD-3100 Plus tests 8MP TVI / CVI / AHD and CVBS cameras on a 5-inch screen, controls PTZ over RS-485 with 30+ protocols, powers the camera at 12V and checks UTP cables. The HD-3200 Plus adds EX-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI.
  • Coax and IP on the same jobs: the IPC-5200 Plus adds 4K / 12MP IP cameras with ONVIF and RTSP, 25.5W PoE output and a 1920 × 1080 touchscreen while keeping 8MP TVI / CVI / AHD and SDI. See the IPC-5100 / 5200 Plus series for the 8K and cable-tracer versions.
  • Mostly IP, including high-power PTZ: the IPC-9800 Pro+ series tests 8K / 32MP IP cameras, supplies up to 90W PoE++, has a gigabit SFP port for fiber links and an RJ45 TDR that locates cable faults up to 180m.

One function does not carry over: the Steedvision testers show and control the picture but do not measure video and sync levels in IRE. If you certify legacy analog runs against level specifications, keep a dedicated video level meter for that job.

What About the SecuriTEST IP?

The maker's current model, now sold under the TREND Networks brand, is the SecuriTEST IP (R171000). It covers IP, HD coax and analog cameras on a 7-inch touchscreen, powers cameras over PoE and 12V, and tests RJ45 cabling. UK distributors list it at around £770 excluding VAT (October 2026). If you want the same class of IP and coax testing at a lower price, compare it with the IPC-7600 Plus and IPC-9800 Pro+ series.

FAQs

Is the IDEAL SecuriTEST Pro still made?

Distributors including Platt list part 33-892 as discontinued with no stock, and name no direct replacement.

Can an analog tester show an HD-TVI or AHD camera?

Only if the camera can be switched to CVBS output. In its native HD mode the picture will not display on an analog-only tester.

Do I need PoE on a camera tester?

If you install IP cameras, yes. With PoE output you can power and view the camera on the ladder before the switch or NVR is installed.
